Champions of photography and lens-based media in Wales and beyond, Ffotogallery worked with an incredible group of women and non-binary artists and photographers from or living in Wales to curate an outdoor gallery exhibition called Nation of Photographers to mark St. Davids Day. Highlighting alternative systems of living, working and seeing, Nation of Photographers invites passersby to explore the richness of what it means to live in Wales today.

With striking artworks from artists such as Phoebe Davies, Asma Elmi, Dione Jones, and Lauren Joy Kennett, JACK ARTS helped Ffotogallery take these windows into homes and challenges some people are experiencing to the streets of Cardiff and Swansea.

Take a closer look at an introduction into Phoebe Davies’ exploration of the physicality and personal narratives of occupying communal and competitive spaces as part of her body of work, Points of Rupture; the co-created project Rooted in Our Dhaqan, from Asma Elmi (founder of Al Naaem) which gives an insight into the intricate beauty, strength, and poetic nature of Somali heritage; Dione Jones’ views on bodies and identities without borders and constraints; and a piece from Lauren Joy Kennett’s book SORRY IM NOT SORRY which reveals Kennett’s experiences of living with undiagnosed autism below.

The post Ffotogallery: Nation of Photographers first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

The organisation helps them build confidence, express themselves, and take an active role in shaping their futures. Their work blends creative skills, community practice, and trauma-aware methods that feel safe and accessible.

For the Inform Women Transform Lives global initiative, Glasgow Girls Club and Glasgow City Council invited 30 young women from local schools, youth organisations and community groups to design artworks inspired by the work of Scots writer Len Pennie.

BUILDHOLLYWOOD Scotland supported the launch of the project by platforming the work in more than 25 different sites around the city – including our large-scale Tradeston 96 sheet – to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, which raises awareness of modern misogyny and all forms of sexism women still face across the world.

The post Glasgow Girls Club first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Making the West Midlands a safe place to host people’s past, present, and futures is a top priority for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). So, for this year’s Road Safety Week, Transport for West Midlands partnered up with RoadPeace (the national charity for road crash victims), the police, and local councils to launch their Zero Tolerance to Road Harm campaign.

BBJ&K and JACK ARTS teamed up to develop ways WMCA could respectfully and creatively amplify the voices of past victims. Together with our Creative Studio, JACK ARTS came up with the idea to make a tree installation carrying incredibly touching messages from families who have been affected by road collisions.

The Letter Tree was unveiled by the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, in Brindleyplace, Birmingham and there was a special moment for road accident survivors and affected family members to see the tree and read their stories. The Letter Tree will now be going on tour across the region in 2026 to continue raising awareness about the importance of road safety.

The post West Midland Combined Authority: Letter Tree for Road Safety Week first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Manchester Art Fair (MAF) returned for 2025, once again transforming Manchester Central into a vibrant hub of creativity, showcasing work from hundreds of established and emerging artists. Running alongside the main fair, The Manchester Contemporary continued to champion new galleries and artist-led initiatives, creating space for experimentation, conversation, and fresh perspectives.

JACK ARTS partnered with MAF once again to bring this year’s campaign to life across the city. For 2025, the featured campaign artwork came from the Manchester-based Bibianna African Art Collective, who represent the artist Agboola Emmanuel. His vibrant piece, known for its bold colour and strong visual presence, became the focal image of the fair’s street campaign.

This year, MAF also invited JACK ARTS to select an additional artwork from the full collection to showcase on one of their chosen sites. The selected piece was Manchester, Drag Brunch Cigarette Break by photographer Charles Eastwood – a striking image captured on Manchester’s iconic Princess Street. Displayed on a 16-sheet installation on the very street where it was photographed, the placement created a meaningful and memorable moment for this year’s campaign.

Adding to the experience, the 2025 campaign introduced scannable QR codes on posters, allowing passersby to instantly claim free tickets, creating a more interactive and welcoming approach to audience engagement. With exhibitions, talks, workshops, and more, Manchester Art Fair 2025 continued to provide a vital platform for artists while offering visitors accessible and inspiring ways to explore contemporary art.

The post Manchester Art Fair 2025 first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

The plan emerges from a collective process that recognises Digbeth’s cultural growth since the late 1980s, responds to concerns around large-scale developments, and identifies opportunities for collaboration to ensure a resilient, thriving cultural future.

Last Friday, we brought the spirit of the streets indoors to celebrate our collaboration with emerging photographer Suede.

After first partnering with Suede in August through our Your Space Or Mine initiative – where her series, Everyday People, appeared on billboards across the UK, this exhibition marked a powerful next step in her creative journey.

Using our space, The CarWash in Shoreditch, as her blank canvas, Suede transformed the adjoining Platform and building’s exterior into a riotous expression of colour, chaos, and charisma. Inside, the space was reimagined as an immersive gallery space, spotlighting the city’s next-gen creatives through her high-fashion lens. Complete with a DJ and bar, floor-to-ceiling vinyl wraps covered the rear of the room, fully transporting visitors into Suede’s technicolour world.

Amongst the fifteen portraits showcased, there was stylist Valeria Chrampani; painter and actor Adébayo Bolaji, chef Abby Lee who runs Mambow in Clapton and UKG original and MC Bushkin of Heartless Crew.

The exhibition was Suede’s tribute to the artistic community that helped shape her career – an opportunity to give back by using her platform to elevate emerging talent while seamlessly blending art, music, and cultural style into her own bold and unmistakable aesthetic.

The post Suede: 48 Sheets first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

You make a banging cup of tea! JACK ARTS help launch 2025 by paying homage to what lights us up. In a creative collaboration with LIGHTS! LIGHTS! LIGHTS! artistic Directors, Claudia Collins and Megan Clark-Bagnall, the project aims to amplify the voices of their Knowle West neighbours, taking their stories across Bristol and beyond. Through workshops and conversations the growing need for uplifting, “feel-good” art has been highlighted, particularly during challenging times like the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

One of the company’s recent collaborations involves P(r)op Artist Ramona Eve Bigwood, supported by funding from the Quartet Community Foundation. Together, they are creating a SHOWER OF COMPLIMENTS informed by workshops held with the Knowle West community that focused on themes of Sustainable Joy—exploring how we can be our own cheerleaders and maintain our emotional resilience.

Digital artist Daisy Hvnter transformed the community’s ideas into a bespoke Barbie themed billboard designed to inject warmth and joy into the typically dreary month of January. The installation is unveiled on Blue Monday, often dubbed the “saddest day of the year.” To mark the occasion, LIGHTS! LIGHTS! LIGHTS! Brought their Knowle West neighbours to the billboard sites for a unique celebration and interactive stunt, showering the billboard and passing public with compliments in a joyful homage to self-love and community spirit.

The post Spreading joy with LIGHTS!

In the latest instalment of our ongoing Under the Bridge project in partnership with Southwark Council, the dedicated arts boards formed part of celebrations to reveal a new mural on the Old Kent Road bridge, inspired by the local community. The arts boards were initially installed to provide a pubic platform to creatively engage the local communities in the regeneration plans – the new mural marks the first stage of an exciting future of development of the area.

The new mural, developed with Lawless Studios and local school children, features spaces and buildings on Old Kent Road represented as vibrant fruit-label motifs; the labels depict places of worship, restaurants and community halls, a reminder of the rich cultural diversity of the area. The new bridge design aims to help to connect people and give a sense of the area being ‘a home from home’ for its inhabitants. Our 10 in a row dedicated arts panels situated below the bridge, that show a rotating display of community arts initiative throughout the year, were transformed to highlight the key achievements and stakeholders in the bridge’s vibrant regeneration. Paired with our large 48 sheet billboard on the opposite side of the road, the poster spaces provided a natural extension of the mural and backdropped the launch activities. The celebratory event was a moment of joy and togetherness, with residents, council representatives, school children and businesses gathering to see themselves represented across the newly transformed bridge – a homage to the exciting communities that call the Old Kent Road home.

The post A home from home on Old Kent Road first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

JACK ARTS Scotland teamed up with Edinburgh Young Carers, a charity that offers support to young people who care for somebody at home, to present a selection of images from their workshop View from Lochend Park at our sites near the green space in Edinburgh.

Exploring a range of different Lomography cameras during a collaborative workshop with Tiny Changes, Scotland’s first national youth mental health charity, a group of young carers aged 12–15 years old were encouraged to view the world in unexpected ways through the camera lens. Over 400 images were shortlisted to 12 to showcase in a city-wide public art display across our poster site and drums in Edinburgh.

Khadea, who led on the project, said: ‘Our public parks are places we connect, shift our perception of the everyday through the magic of analogue. Through this workshop, we captured what it means to be outdoors in green spaces and finding moments of joy!’.

In the spirit of working to help young minds feel better, this creative project offered the group respite from caring responsibilities, a sense of belonging and connection to their local environment.

The post Edinburgh Young Carers capture the View from Lochend Park first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Bonjour is a Queer-run workers’ co-operative in Glasgow’s Saltmarket, operating as a bar, club, and space with the intention of prioritising underrepresented groups in the local LGBTQ+ community. The space is one for celebration – hoping to reaffirm the Queer euphoria everyone deserves to feel, while also encouraging mutual support among its members.

In the current climate, it’s not easy to sustain an independent space. The cost-of-living crisis has already caused plenty of DIY ventures to close or take undefined hiatuses – but Bonjour is determined to keep being the invaluable space that it is. In order to spotlight everything Bonjour has to offer and celebrate the publication of its limited-edition newspaper, we worked with Tom Joyes to share their fundraising project concept – ‘Yes, I can see the stars’ – across Glasgow’s streets.

Storying the communal experience of Bonjour through a gorgeous ’90s-inspired shoot that brought together many of its communities’ talents, the models, hair, make-up, photography, and styling transport the essence of the space to printed paper. Cosmic, blissfully hazy, and blending the future and the past – ‘Yes, I can see the stars’ evokes awe, excitement, confidence, and defiance. Showcased on our street poster sites across the city, the city became Bonjour’s own – just as it should be.

You can read more about our partnership with Bonjour here.

The post Bonjour: Yes, I can see the stars first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Curated by Black Blossoms, each display involves community partners and artists or creatives with strong personal connections to the neighbourhood.

After its debut display hosted local artist Nicola Hussein’s work, the official launch of the project site featured pieces produced by Kender Primary School with Bernice Mulenga and Amanda Holiday. Made possible by the Future High Streets Fund, the installation is the first step in a wider, ongoing project to regenerate the bridge and its surrounding area. Until then, Under the Bridge is a gateway to involving the local community in the process.

Play is a universal human right: it’s how we explore the world, and it creates unique learning experiences for children and young people. Playspace is a vital initiative that champions this notion – we worked with them on an exciting project to bring the importance of creativity and play to wider audiences.

Working with thirty students from three selected educational zones in the borough of Hackney – William Patten Primary School, Stoke Newington School, and Shakespeare Walk Adventure Playground – the project saw young people develop ideas and designs that would be shared far and wide through large-scale billboard displays.

Through a series of creative after school sessions, the groups worked on deciding their themes, designs, and colour schemes, with each participant bringing a unique voice and identity to the project. The talent of the young people was evident from the start, with detailed sketches, humorous caricatures, and large-scale graffiti pieces coming out of the first session alone, ideas being formed and focused with advice from working artists and professionals throughout.

The final outcome was three collaborative artworks that explored what creativity meant to the groups, and the designs were displayed on large-scale billboards across Hackney for the community to enjoy. Supported by Hackney Council and developed with Queen Mary University, the project has been used to contribute towards research into the impact of creativity and play in educational settings, and also featured in a new documentary developed by Queen Mary University film students.

The post PlaySpace: Hackney Young Voices first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

From the borough’s network of green and wet spaces to private gardens, windowsills, and doorsteps, the campaign with Fieldwork Facility aimed to inspire small actions to create big change. Together with interactive QR-code poster designs and protest-plaque style installations in key locations, it highlighted the need to let nature go wild, with ideas from adopting a local street tree to creating doorstep bug hotels.

Created in collaboration with Year 5 students from nearby Carpenters Primary School, we helped to bring the installation to life.

The bespoke artwork highlights the wealth of plants and wildlife to be discovered along the route of The Line and in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and the blooming display was installed to mark the 10th anniversary of the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games.

To engage passers-by and park visitors, The Living Line features QR codes at the beginning and end panels. Linking to downloadable wildlife information packs and recorded audio of local schoolchildren, it helps to describe the pied wagtails, buddleia, and brown carder bees found within the illustrations, and in the green areas surrounding them.

The post The Living Line: Somang Lee first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

For the second edition of the Brent Biennial, the programme was planned around the theme ‘In the House of my Love’. Thinking about homemaking in all its forms, it set out to continue the work the inaugural festival did in promoting, platforming, and providing space for local arts and creativity in the borough.

As part of the 2022 programme, alongside Studio Voltaire, we teamed up with Brent-based charity Metroland Cultures to bring a series of special commissions to the streets. Following an open call centred around the biennial’s theme, four artists were selected to display their works on our sites in the borough and in Studio Voltaire’s home of Clapham. Across four weeks, the revolving display took each artist’s piece or series to four different locations.

The successful submissions came from Sadia Pineda Hameed, ActionSpace artist Jorell Bonnick, Kamile Ofoeme, and Theo White. Having their own connections to Brent, each artist’s work presented the nuances of broader communities – exploring Black queer identities, fields of colour that equate to occupying space as a disabled person, hybrid languages and identities, and food associated with the Black diasporic community. Find out more about the biennial here.

The post Brent Biennial 2022: In the House of my Love first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Reimagine Newham is a project that saw a collective of artists and the community come together to examine and interpret the world we live in. Centred around their experiences of the borough and angled as a new genre of public art, it encouraged participants to “deal with socio-political issues” and “search for the good” in trying times.

Curator Nicole Tatschl and creative director Kamila Szymkiewicz collaborated with artists, local students, and residents to create a programme that felt both representative and fruitful. Conversations among participants and their shared ideas worked alongside free augmented reality workshops – because it’s a medium that ‘allows for seeing things differently… to re-imagine, to recreate, to reinterpret’ – to produce AR artworks that reflected their concerns and covered a spectrum of issues from war to social housing.

Reimagine Newham culminated in a public exhibition at Royal Victoria Docks, making it Newham’s very first public AR exhibition. We worked alongside them to showcase it across the way in West London, with the 12 participants’ artworks featured on street posters for passers-by to scan and experience. As the borough with the lowest cultural investment in London, the Newham project was a wonderful way to cultivate connections and expand artistic engagement – showcasing art away from typical, sometimes intimidating gallery settings, and placing it right within London’s communities.

The post Reimagine Newham first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Having received universal acclaim, Life Between Islands “explores the work of artists from the Caribbean who made their home in Britain, alongside other British artists whose work has been influenced and inspired by Caribbean themes and heritage.” Centring around the formations of community and identity, it celebrates visionary artists, photographers, designers and creatives who have altered the course of British culture and transformed contemporary society through their practices.

Designed as a community-orientated extension to Life Between Islands, our pop-up street gallery with Tate Britain is taking over our billboards, as well as buildings, spaces and places across the capital, sharing newly told stories about London’s Caribbean communities and cultural heritage. It highlights cinemas, markets, clubs, libraries, community centres and restaurants – inviting passers-by and those intentionally exploring the route to hear the voices of people who have loved, used, and perhaps had their identity and work shaped by, the locations featured.

Stories from the likes of Steve McQueen CBE, Hew Locke, Grace Wales Bonner, Neil Kenlock, Wyn Baptiste and Ingrid Pollard cover Ridley Road Market in Dalston, Crystal Palace Farm, the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, Notting Hill Carnival’s Trini Hall, Alexandra Palace, Matchstick Piehouse in Deptford, and many, many more community spots, taking inspiration from English Heritage’s Blue Plaque scheme with over 40 stories and sites to explore.

The post Tate Britain: Life Between Islands first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

As part of Hackney’s Black History in the Making season, international artist Kay Rufai has been bringing together a research-led mental wellbeing project for Black boys in the borough – called S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys.

The project was created as an alternative response to the rise in the number of young people being adversely impacted by violence, which has been met by reactionary measures from the national government. Tougher criminalisation of youth, increased stop and searches, and greater police presence in majority communities has seemed to hinder – not help – the issue.

Kay was instead inspired to consider the subject of increasing violence through the lens of public health – which required looking into the mental health provisions for the demographic in question – or as it became apparent, the lack thereof.

Kay’s research took him to countries with world-beating measures of happiness, including Denmark, Bhutan and Sweden. While travelling, he uncovered eight factors deemed responsible for the ratings – which were used to form the basis of subsequent workshops for 13-year-old boys back in London. Involving poetry, discussion-based art sessions and photography, the sessions sought to develop the boys’ ways of expression, encouraging them to explore their sense of identity, and find new ways to manage their own happiness.

Now, Kay has worked with over 300 Black boys from ten London boroughs. The projects have been used to create exhibitions across the city – including Hackney Council’s, which is presenting 17 portraits of its own S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys.

We’ve worked with Hackney Council to help display the portraits in public spaces across Hackney – including on a trio of our sites on street-sides in the borough – alongside an exhibition at Hackney Bridge, bringing important sentiments about happiness and community-focused solutions to the fore.

The post Hackney Council: S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Marking one year since the first Covid-19 lockdown began in the UK, Isolating Together is an outdoor photography exhibition portraying inspiring stories of community, action and solidarity during Covid-19. Running for 10 days, it will be displayed at 18 locations – including a selection of iconic spaces – across Camden, London from 22nd March.

The entirely crowdfunded exhibition celebrates the many people from different walks of life who came together at a time of unprecedented hardship to look after one another. Karishma Puri, the artist behind the project, was inspired to capture the images after establishing Covid Mutual Aid in Kentish Town. A WhatsApp-based community group, it was set up for neighbours to support one another and overcome isolation. “It was clear people were facing acute challenges. But I was also aware of a growing hope and community spirit. So I set out to capture this energy and resolve with my camera,” Karishma explains.

Jack Arts are delighted to be collaborating with Isolating Together to transform our poster space across Camden into a street gallery to support the project. Other displays will include community spaces and local shop windows. Each location was carefully selected from among the most meaningful venues in the area. The centrepiece will be displayed across a 14 metre wall at Number 19, the home of community action in Camden.

The post Isolating Together: An outdoor photography exhibition born out of Mutual Aid to mark one year of lockdown first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.

Created to centre and celebrate the voices of young people in Hoxton, Your Future Worlds is an art project partnership between Hackney charity Eastside, and social design and engagement platform Syrup Magazine.

With support from Hackney Council, Your Future Worlds sought to document the opinions of young people from the local area, looking at their hopes for and expectations of the area’s future. The project predicts how Hackney might evolve using the voices of its own community.

Originally intended as part of a physical exhibition, the project had to adapt to the pandemic – and so it was fitting for it to take to the streets it sought to explore. We were delighted to partner with Eastside and Syrup to showcase Your Future Worlds on billboards and sites in and around Hoxton, with a vibrant colour palette to perfectly pair with the surrounding areas.

While the project included the voices of a number of Hoxton locals, a few snippets had to be chosen to encompass its broader concept on the street. Spot ideas like, “There’s lots of opportunity here. You can start small but go big in Hackney”, representing Your Future Worlds’ wider themes: that the future of Hackney is changing, green, creative, ours, and much, much more. You can browse the project in full on the Your Future Worlds website, with voice recordings and graphic interpretations of the collection of ideas.

The post Your Future Worlds: Syrup Magazine and Eastside document the Hoxton community’s hopes for Hackney’s future first appeared on BUILDHOLLYWOOD.
