Spreading joy with LIGHTS! LIGHTS! LIGHTS! For Blue Monday

You make a banging cup of tea!  JACK ARTS help launch 2025 by paying homage to what lights us up. In a creative collaboration with LIGHTS! LIGHTS! LIGHTS! artistic Directors, Claudia Collins and Megan Clark-Bagnall, the project aims to amplify the voices of their Knowle West neighbours, taking their stories across Bristol and beyond. Through workshops and conversations the growing need for uplifting, “feel-good” art has been highlighted, particularly during challenging times like the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

One of the company’s recent collaborations involves P(r)op Artist Ramona Eve Bigwood, supported by funding from the Quartet Community Foundation. Together, they are creating a SHOWER OF COMPLIMENTS informed by workshops held with the Knowle West community that focused on themes of Sustainable Joy—exploring how we can be our own cheerleaders and maintain our emotional resilience.

Digital artist Daisy Hvnter transformed the community’s ideas into a bespoke Barbie themed billboard designed to inject warmth and joy into the typically dreary month of January. The installation is unveiled on Blue Monday, often dubbed the “saddest day of the year.” To mark the occasion, LIGHTS! LIGHTS! LIGHTS! Brought their Knowle West neighbours to the billboard sites for a unique celebration and interactive stunt, showering the billboard and passing public with compliments in a joyful homage to self-love and community spirit.
