The Living Line: Somang Lee

The Living Line is a new site-specific, 146-metre-long commission for the route of The Line in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, by award-winning illustrator, projection artist, and nature lover Somang Lee. Created in collaboration with Year 5 students from nearby Carpenters Primary School, we helped to bring the installation to life.

The bespoke artwork highlights the wealth of plants and wildlife to be discovered along the route of The Line and in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and the blooming display was installed to mark the 10th anniversary of the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games.

To engage passers-by and park visitors, The Living Line features QR codes at the beginning and end panels. Linking to downloadable wildlife information packs and recorded audio of local schoolchildren, it helps to describe the pied wagtails, buddleia, and brown carder bees found within the illustrations, and in the green areas surrounding them.
