Celebrating Bookshop Day in Birmingham

Bookshop Day is a nationwide celebration of independent and high-street bookshops across the UK and Ireland. It shines a spotlight on the people behind these much-loved spaces, from booksellers and authors to publishers, poets and illustrators, while encouraging readers to discover and support their local bookshops. The day celebrates the important place bookshops hold within our communities, helping to bring people together and keep our high streets thriving.

Since 2016, we’ve been proud to work alongside Books Are My Bag , and this year we brought the campaign to Birmingham with two striking new murals.

Created by installation artist and designer UUendy Lau, and mural and graffiti artist Gent 48, the artworks showcase the distinct creative styles of both artists while celebrating the character of the city.

The murals celebrate the vital role bookshops play in bringing people together, supporting local communities and breathing life into our high streets, while encouraging shoppers to get a head start on their Christmas book shopping in-store. By collaborating with artists from Birmingham’s creative scene, the project also shines a spotlight on the city’s exceptional local talent, bringing together a shared love of books, art and community.
