Royal Exchange Theatre: King Lear

For 50 years, the iconic in-the-round stage of the Royal Exchange Theatre has connected audiences with thought-provoking pieces of theatre. And to celebrate the theatre’s 50th anniversary and Homecoming season, David Threlfall steps into the role of Shakespeare’s King Lear 40 years after his Royal Exchange debut.

Rupturing familial bonds, destructive consequences of coveted power, and the revealing nature of disguise take centre stage in this well-known tragedy. And to spread the word of this new retelling, JACK ARTS worked with Royal Exchange Theatre to deliver a poster campaign across Manchester. With minimalist artwork featuring Threlfall, the delicate balance the play treads with love, hope, betrayal and loss is teased in key areas of the city where creative curiosity is palpable.
