National Galleries of Scotland x Granton Youth
In a collaboration between the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) and Granton Youth – an organisation that provides opportunities and support for young people and their families – nine young people were invited to explore themes from the galleries’ exhibition To Be Seen by Catherine Opie.
Working with facilitating artist Matthew Arthur Williams, and supporting artist MV Brown, across six sessions the group created analogue and digital portraits in a pop-up studio, inspired by their after-hour access to the exhibition.
BUILDHOLLYWOOD Scotland partnered with NGS and Granton Youth to bring the resulting portraits by Freya, Enigma, Lily Duncan, Beda Rose, Selma, Diva, Esther, Faiza and Titaws to the streets of Edinburgh. Adding a new layer to the work, the partnership invited passersby to learn more about Catherine Opie and Granton Youth, providing an insight into the inclusive and experimental nature of the work, while championing the importance of youth spaces to build up confidence and encourage creative expression.
