Bookshop Day 2024: Glasgow Murals

Bookshop Day returned in October with booksellers, publishers, authors, illustrators and poets across the UK encouraging people to explore and shop at their local bookshops.

JACK ARTS Scotland worked with Booksellers Association and artists Jacqueline Briggs and Jack Stamp to create two unique and colourful murals in Glasgow – one on our drum at St Enoch’s Square and another on an 8-sheet panel on Blythswood Street – which celebrated local book stores and highlighted the festival’s theme of “Bookshops Making a Difference”.

‘Bookshops hold a really nice place in my heart – it’s a place of solace, you can come off a busy street… and disappear into your own world. For this artwork I really wanted to get across being really lost in a good book – and being able to choose where you want to go’ – Jacqueline Briggs

‘The mural is a depiction of the interior of a bookshop – and each section is like looking into a window which represents a different popular genre of book’ – Jack Stamp
