Jack Arts
Tate: Sargent and Fashion
The ‘leading portrait artist of his generation’, John Singer Sargent is celebrated for capturing the essence of Edwardian high society.
Tate’s latest exhibition Sargent and Fashion sheds new light on the artist, examining how a remarkable painter became a ground-breaking stylist. Meticulously fashioning the image his sitters presented to the world through their sartorial choices, Sargent created gloriously rich but subtle portraits that continue to captivate today.
Echoing contemporary fashion photography, JACK ARTS teamed up with AKA on a minimal but chic poster takeover campaign that brought Singer Sargent’s perfectly poised portraits of wealthy late 19th and early 20th century patrons, dancers, actors and singers to the busy streets of London, inviting passers-by to take a closer look.
