Your Space Or Mine

Dancing in the Shadow of Henry

Presenting inspiring, contemporary art in an unexpected location, Dancing in the Shadow of Henry is our permanent pocket sculpture garden in Camberwell, South London. As part of BUILDHOLLYWOOD’s ongoing artist initiative Your Space Or Mine, the project is curated and led by Sarah Staton, Head of Sculpture at the Royal College of Art, and presents new artist commissions biannually.

Reflecting on Henry Moore’s Two Piece Reclining Figure No. 3, which can be found on the nearby Brandon Estate, Dancing in the Shadow of Henry is a catalyst for a new creative configuration between road, plinth, artist and audience, using street-side intervention to enliven and energise the local neighbourhood.

Commissioned artists are also invited to work alongside nearby St John the Divine Primary School to create artist-led community activities that celebrate multi-sensory delight and creativity.

Curator Sarah Staton writes:

“Contemplative sculpture and the hectic energy of a busy arterial London road don’t often meet directly in dialogue, but Dancing in the Shadow of Henry proposes just such an interaction […] The sculptures you will find here will manifest as a street-side people-friendly human-scale proposition, and a new platform for emerging artists and engaging new audiences.”
