Hay Festival: 2023
In the Welsh booktown of Hay-on-Wye, the Hay Festival of Literature & Arts has been inviting ‘audiences to imagine the world as it is and as it might be’ by offering ‘innovative platforms to discover new ideas’ for Nobel Prize winners, novelists, scientists, politicians, historians, environmentalists, and musicians since its beginning 1987. Coined the ‘Woodstock of the mind’, 36 years on, the Hay Festival holds a vital place in global culture – reaching an audience of millions each year.
To bring this year’s event to Bristol and Birmingham, we worked alongside the Hay Festival on vibrant street poster takeovers of our sites in each city. Asserting its ability to inspire and encourage imaginations to run free, the creatives also included some of this year’s huge and varied line-up – featuring the likes of Stormzy, Mary Berry, Baaba Maal, Dua Lipa, Helena Bonham Carter, Douglas Stuart, Margaret Atwood, Elif Shafak and Gary Younge.
