Your Space Or Mine

WALK 6: look up

The sixth walk with Alisa Oleva explored looking at the city from various new angles.

The outing covered the following questions: How often do you look up? Can you walk following the skyline made by the rooftops? Look back. Look under. Look down. Look far into the distance. How does the city look and feel from these angles? The group started together at The CarWash with some arrival exercises and then went out into the streets to look into cracks and holes, look at tilting their heads, look back, following the streets made in the sky by the roof edges and listen to someone describing what was behind them.

WALK: our series of free monthly urban art walks, hosted by performance and walking artist Alisa Oleva is part of our Your Space Or Mine project.

Make a map of how you got here today.

Walk choosing one of the instructions I have given you on small pieces of paper: LOOK UP / LOOK BACK / LOOK BEHIND / LOOK INTO / LOOK INSIDE / LOOK DOWN / LOOK AROUND

Become a human camera

As you walk, capture what you see around you using a ‘Dutch angle.’

Walk around and find everything you can look through

Walk around looking at the city through different colours

Trace the skylines around you with your finger. Then trace it onto a long piece of paper.

Using either a phone camera or a mirror in your hand, walk around tracing the upper streets formed by roofs and skies
