The Hundred Club: Billboard in a Day

Founded in 2021 by artist Ruth Beale in collaboration with local artist-led space TACO!, The Hundred Club is an experimental creative space for children based in Thamesmead, south London. Regularly partnering with established visual artists and designers with hands-on workshops and activities, the club invites children aged 5-12 (and their siblings, parents and carers) to explore social justice issues through the power of art and play.

This spring, led by illustrator and artist Tommy Brentnall, The Hundred Club approached us to create a ‘Billboard in a Day’, inviting its members to work with typography, graphics, writing and drawing to produce a huge billboard design to reflect on the issues they care about the most – from war to housing, climate change to racism. After some careful planning and mini-modelling, the club’s young members created a splash on the streets of Woolwich, showcasing their powerful messages on a giant scale, giving passers-by some food for thought.
