Hak Baker: Hakeem

Since the release of his 2017 EP Misfits, Hak Baker has used music as a vehicle for raw honesty, storytelling and self-expression, capturing the realities of life through his lyrics. Hakeem, a revealing documentary five years in the making, marks a significant turning point in Baker’s journey, offering a deeper insight into his life and creative process. It also represents the first time he has shared songs written on the guitar – an instrument he famously acquired after winning it in a prison raffle.

Directed by James Topley and Ivo Beckett of DEADHORSES, the intensely personal film offers an intimate portrait of Baker, both on and off stage. The documentary premiered at BUILDHOLLYWOOD’s event space, The Car Wash, in the heart of Shoreditch, with an exclusive screening followed by a Q&A hosted by CassKid. During the conversation, an emotional Hak Baker shared further reflections and personal details, adding another layer to an already candid and deeply moving exploration of his life, music and experiences.

To mark the documentary’s release, BUILDHOLLYWOOD has taken Hakeem to the streets of London, celebrating the city that shaped Baker and continues to influence his music.
