Bricks Bristol: The Crocodile
JACK ARTS has teamed up with social enterprise charity Bricks Bristol to tease the launch of a new public sculpture, a striking new piece by Dorcas Casey, now proudly displayed at the entrance of the Welcome Building. Dorcas is a local multi-disciplinary artist whose work is inspired by folk rituals, memory and dreams, her practice is deeply rooted in forming connections with local communities.
The latest public art installation is a life-sized crocodile (in homage to a contemporary Bristol myth of a crocodile sighted in the river Avon) designed to be both intriguing and welcoming, the crocodile’s textured skin was collaboratively designed by over 100 local people (and animals!) who each imprinted their mark in clay – the input from the local community transforms the piece into a true symbol of shared creativity, storytelling, and collective history. The city-wide billboard campaign reflects the playful nature of the latest commission, a duo of creatives complimenting each other across the city with a fun nod to the familiar saying, “In a while, Crocodile,” an eye-catching display to launch a sculpture which celebrates imagination, community and creativity.
