Beyond the Box: Expressions Of Resilience

Emerging architects and spatial designers Taja Dennis, Lily Nguyen and Akif Rahman explore diasporic strength and community-led protest through Beyond the Box, an installation at BUILDHOLLYWOOD’s The Car Wash in Shoreditch.

Taking over The CarWash, The Nail Bar and The Platform, the trio have transformed the spaces in response to the brief, ‘Expressions of Resilience’, reimagining the traditional box as a place for rest, connection and creative expression.

Rooted in their East End heritage, the installation celebrates resilience, solidarity and difference. The project explores neurodivergence, protest and the importance of designing beyond the ‘default’ user, putting inclusivity and community at its heart.
