WALK 7: the line

The walk with Alisa Oleva in December will explore the geometry of the city and different points it connects into a line and where it curves and bends.

Draw the line on the map and try to walk it. Find all the dead ends near you and visit them. Where do straight streets start to bend and where are they leading to? What happens if we walk back? What happens if we walk the same route over and over again? We will start together at The CarWash with some arrival exercises and then go out into the streets to walk in lines and circles, to spot geometric forms in the urban environment around us, to walk back and forth and to walk over and over.

The walk is open to anyone – please come along if you are curious to explore walking and the city in a playful, critical, thoughtful and poetic way. It will start and finish at The CarWash in Shoreditch, 1 Quaker Street, London, E1 6SZ.  There is no need to bring anything, but try to travel light and dress accordingly as it will proceed in any weather.

This event is free to attend. However spaces are limited, please RSVP using the form below to confirm your spot.

WALK: our series of free monthly urban art walks, hosted by performance and walking artist Alisa Oleva is part of our Your Space Or Mine project.

Make a map of how you got here today.

As you walk try and find different shapes around you in the streets: circles, triangles, squares, etc.

Walk around this place and mirror different shapes you notice with your own body.

In groups of three move around the public space while keeping equal distance from each other.

Using tape measure and your own body as a measuring tool, take measurements of the street and its buildings.

Walk together following me through the streets as a line, holding onto a bright orange thread.

Become a human camera.

As we walk, add shapes, patterns and lines to the city with a piece of chalk.
