Magnus Westwell: Broken Light of my Heart
It’s been a busy few years for artist and director Magnus Westwell. From performances at Sadler’s Wells and experimental music venue Café OTO to scoring Paolo Carzana’s London Fashion Week runway and performing for Louis Vuitton, Westwell continues to push creative boundaries.
His company, Bright Storm Group, brings together trained and untrained dancers for a 20-minute performance premiered at The Car Wash. Drawing inspiration from clubs and raves, the piece deconstructs and reimagines the movements of the dancefloor, transforming familiar club moves into something entirely new.
Working with BUILDHOLLYWOOD to launch Broken Light of My Heart, Westwell’s work marks the opening of the space, with workshops, pop-ups and further performances set to follow. “It’s amazing to be working with a new cultural space in London that’s there to platform new artists,” he says. “It doesn’t have a hierarchical feel. It’s needed.”
