Streetreads x Edinburgh International Book Festival

Far more than a library, Streetreads is a community, a shared sense of belonging, and a safe space in Edinburgh for people experiencing homelessness.

Over 18 months, Edinburgh International Book Festival collaborated with Streetreads as part of their Paper Trails project which supports and highlights the city’s vibrant network of libraries. With a focus on celebrating the library and its work, the festival hosted a series of workshops with the Streetreads community, exploring their creativity through writing and sketching sessions led by writer Hannah Lavery and illustrator Katie Quinn.

BUILDHOLLYWOOD Scotland helped take the resulting work out onto streets across Edinburgh – platforming the words, drawings and experiences of the group as panel takeovers at Wishaw Terrace, Meadowbank and Dundee Street, alongside presenting sections of the work as quads on our arts and culture drums.
