West Midland Combined Authority: Letter Tree for Road Safety Week

Making the West Midlands a safe place to host people’s past, present, and futures is a top priority for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). So, for this year’s Road Safety Week, Transport for West Midlands partnered up with RoadPeace (the national charity for road crash victims), the police, and local councils to launch their Zero Tolerance to Road Harm campaign.

BBJ&K and JACK ARTS teamed up to develop ways WMCA could respectfully and creatively amplify the voices of past victims. Together with our Creative Studio, JACK ARTS came up with the idea to make a tree installation carrying incredibly touching messages from families who have been affected by road collisions.

The Letter Tree was unveiled by the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, in Brindleyplace, Birmingham and there was a special moment for road accident survivors and affected family members to see the tree and read their stories. The Letter Tree will now be going on tour across the region in 2026 to continue raising awareness about the importance of road safety.
