Sandra George: Start from the Level
Artist Sandra George devoted her life to working with communities, documenting and developing vital social-action projects for over thirty years. Through this work – and her career as a freelance photographer – she created an incredible, distinctive legacy of photographs capturing social histories.
To coincide with the launch of City Art Centre’s exhibition of her work Start from the Level which presents over 200 of George’s photographs from Craigmillar Now’s community archive, BUILDHOLLYWOOD Scotland partnered with the gallery to take a selection of the works out of the gallery space and onto the streets of Edinburgh.
Exploring community, family and the lives of young people, the works were returned to the streets of the city where they were made. Presented on our sites from Meadowbank to Fountainbridge, they offered a glimpse into George’s practice, and her impact on the communities she worked within.
