Penguin Audio: Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief
At this year’s Young Adult Literature Convention at London Comic-Con, Jack Arts teamed up to bring Penguin Audio’s Camp Half-Blood from Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series to life with an interactive installation. The setup featured a forest at night, complete with camp flags and the subtle, unnerving presence of a hellhound’s eyes lurking in the background.
Flaming torches, tree stump seating, scattered swords, helmets and shields amid crumbling pillars bring the woodland camp to life authentically. Two large conch shells served as interactive props, with decreet speakers playing excerpts from the audiobook – attendees were invited to pass them around and listen, drawing them deeper into the world of Camp Half-Blood. These shells were a nod to Percy Jackson’s heritage as the son of Poseidon, adding a deeper layer to the experience. They also triggered the nostalgic childhood memory of holding a shell to one’s ear to “hear the sea.” The installation also featured fun props, perfect for Comic-Con photos, allowing visitors to share their experience online and spread the magic of Camp Half-Blood beyond the event.
