Kneecap: Fenian
Not ones to shy away from their worldviews, and with an album titled ‘FENIAN’, Kneecap have made it clear that they are not shying away from the political stances that got them in trouble in the first place.
Translating the band’s use of language as a political weapon into a visual moment, Pias Recording commissioned DIABOLICAL to build a creative billboard that speaks for itself.
Referencing the Battle of Cable Street through its choice of Shadwell location (a 1936 anti-fascist demonstration against Oswald Mosley and the BUF, organised by the Independent Labour Party, the Communist Party of Great Britain and the Jewish Peoples Council), the artwork invites a historical reinterpretation.
For the epic reveal, the band got a group of fans wearing balaclavas to dance in front of the billboard, while the red smoke flare was activated. Using protest-like aesthetics to push the album release, the billboard places controversy centre-stage, emboldening Kneecap’s own brand identity one step further.
