JR: The Inside Out Project
Globally renowned for enormous, interactive, community-orientated art installations, French artist JR has shown his work in all four corners of the globe. The Inside Out Project is one of his biggest and best-known concepts, having toured 138 countries and featured over 415,000 people. As part of its EURO 2020 stop off in London, we installed hundreds of portraits in the Royal Docks on the 100th Anniversary of their completion.
With London as one of the main hosts of the UEFA tournament, the project provided a perfect opportunity to welcome people back to the English capital. The portraits in The Inside Out Project captured individual stories, celebrating the people that make up London, inspired by the magic of football and its ability to bring people together. Including key workers, school children and people from the local community, the installation series shone a positive light on the city, giving everyone something to smile about.
