Del LaGrace Volcano x EAF: Love Bites Back

Continuing BUILDHOLLYWOOD Scotland’s collaboration with the UK’s largest annual festival of visual art, EAF, we brought the work of artist, performer and activist Del LaGrace Volcano to the streets of Edinburgh for the 2026 edition of the festival, as an extension of their exhibition Love Bites Back.

Focusing on a pivotal period of dyke photography produced by Volcano between 1982 and 1995, the work explores queer identity, BDSM culture, and how bodies experience, and resist, political control – offering an intimate and confrontational portrait of communities navigating desire, power, and self-representation.

Presenting never-before-seen work from Volcano’s time in Edinburgh, alongside wider work spanning London and the USA, the images trace the development of the artist’s striking visual language during a concentrated moment of experimentation: challenging traditional understandings of gender and sexuality, and giving authorial agency to the people that appear in them.
