Penguin Random House: #Likeawoman pop-up shop
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Held annually on March 8th, in recent years it’s finally started to become a prominent cultural fixture.
In 2018, we were extremely proud to be involved in Penguin Random House’s IWD initiative, arranging, installing and dressing their Shoreditch based pop-up shop from head to toe. The #LikeAWoman bookshop, held in partnership with Waterstones, opened it’s doors on Rivington Street in east London for five full days of immersion in female literary greatness.
The shop only featured female writers, stocking over 200 authors and a selection of the most inspiring and iconic titles of recent times from the likes of Malorie Blackman, Iris Murdoch, Zadie Smith and Margaret Atwood, alongside more classic authors like Mary Wollstonecraft. The pop-up shop also played host to a series of inspirational Penguin Live literary events, featuring some of the most exciting contemporary British female voices.
Furthermore, proceeds from the ticket sales and a selection of the books were donated to Solace Women’s Aid, who have provided support to risk women and children in London for over 40 years.
The pop-up shop received wide-spread social media and press attention including The Guardian, Evening Standard, Huffington Post, TimeOut, Refinery29, The Bookseller, Campaign, and many more.
