Mumford & Sons: Wilder Mind
Armed with a big, new sound, Mumford & Sons launched their third album, Wilder Mind. To promote the new album, Island records approached DIABOLICAL to build a replica of the Wilder Mind neon sign featured in the band’s new album artwork, as well as source locations for it to appear in the run up to release. We were stoked about the opportunity, as we dig a bit of neon signage and of course Mumford & Sons.
First up was Hackney Central’s Oslo, where the band performed three secret gigs back in March. To help light up the venue, we attached the giant, 6m long, neon sign we’d created, hanging it over the main entrance. The shining beacon went down a storm. So much so that we decided to take it on a tour around London – first location being on the corner of Jamestown Road, right in the heart of Camden. We then took it to Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch, where the neon sign featured as part of a standout, 60m wide installation celebrating the album’s release.
This impressive run of special builds was backed up by a month of traditional outdoor, leading up to, and throughout, the release week. Some of the creative paid homage to the neon sign, whilst others showcased the beautiful cityscape image that features on the album cover. Wilder Mind went on to take the number one spot on the UK album charts in it’s debut week – a great result for the boys!
