Kneecap: Fine Art
Welcome to The Rutz. A community-owned (fictional) pub in the heart of West Belfast, where controversial rap trio Kneecap have set their debut album, Fine Art. Feeling unseen, unheard and unwanted, the group formed to represent their reality in music and deliver it in their native tongue; a language that is too-often ignored. The result: a hedonistic, satirical – yet socially conscious – album that plays like poetry on the inside of a cubicle wall.
In collaboration with DIABOLICAL, our in-house creative studio team got to work on a pair of creative builds. The first features the album artwork to Fine Art; suitably decorated in a 3m x 3m gold frame, with a “STOLEN FROM IRELAND BY THE BRITISH MUSEUM” sticker top right. While the second paid tribute to a mural the group had unveiled some two years ago, with a police Land Rover ablaze, spilling out above the billboard and smoking in the streets. The trio even stopped on by to check it out get a couple snaps for socials.
