Bankside: 25 Years of Shakespeare’s Globe
For the 25th anniversary of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, Bankside decided to celebrate the occasion – with the Shakespeare Art Trail, illustrating “the ways in which Shakespeare’s 400-year-old words continue to resonate, excite and inspire the artists and creative practitioners of today”.
Shakespeare’s imagination travelled the length and breadth of the Earth, producing words, worlds and culture-making works that have become central to the nation’s literary identity. Celebrating the anniversary of his home-turf theatre by recasting historic plays and poetry in a new creative light feels like a wonderful and befitting way to commemorate its success.
We worked with Bankside to bring the Shakespeare Art Trail to life – partnering to help curate, and execute the installation for the project, we brought specially commissioned works by Disco Dickins, Layla Andrews, Attaz, Tomboy Bill, Richa Vora, Kristina Chan and more to the streets of the local area. In the name of honouring such an important cultural hotspot, and enabling us to platform art in the heart of the city, the project was a joy to get stuck into.
